  • Cambodia achieved independence from the French in 1953 and celebrates each year on November 9th
  • The Mekong River, the largest river in SE Asia, flows through Cambodia
  • Angkor Wat, an eighth Wonder of the World, was built in the 12th Century and serves as a national symbol of Cambodia, appearing on the national flag
  • Estimates of one to three million educated people were killed during the rule of the Khmer Rouge from 1975-1979
  • Although the US dollar and Thai Baht are widely accepted, Cambodia’s official currency is the Riel
  • Cambodia’s form of government is a Constitutional Monarchy
